Newsflash for Paul Cellucci

A National Post article today brings us breaking news: "Canada has given up control of its airspace: U.S. ambassador."

Hellooooooo, Your Excellency!! How long have you been in Ottawa? We did that a long time ago. John Diefenbaker was in power when we started to do that. Please, tell us something we don't know.

  • Martin made his decision because the Quebec wing of the Liberal Party opposed it. Speaking of sovereignty, I think it's time for Quebec to have another referendum.

  • You may get your wish, my dear anonymous. Monsieur Charest is not doing all that well in Quebec these days. Landry and the PQ are already rattling the referendum sabre pretty hard. If (they say "when") they come back to power, we'll get another one, avec ou sans conditions gagnantes. It would be interesting to see how it would play out in the face of the Obscurity Act.

  • But as we know, Landry and his thugs are not separatists. Their "sovereignty association" exists in a postmodern dreamworld that means pretty much anything they want it to mean as long as it's convenient. Admirable realpolitik approach to federalism that I wish Ralph Klein would adopt to an extent, but it does more harm than good for Quebec and for us. Perhaps the pressure to leave should come from ROC.
